Coaching
Business coaching provides an opportunity for a business leader to talk freely in a safe space and gain understanding of what is holding him or her back. Mentoring is a one-on-one skills transfer intervention. Our approach is a combination of coaching and mentoring, tapping into our comprehensive range of training programmes to maximise the coaching outcome.
In addition business coaching provides an opportunity for a business owner or manager to talk freely in a safe space. Good coaches provide you with the benefit of their experience, help you see the blind spots that can so often derail a great business and encourage you to think about your business or leadership in ways you would not do on your own. You get to see the big picture that highlights how to:
increase profit; enhance your competitive edge; create the ideal conditions for exponential growth; develop an engaging work environment; and, pave the way for future business success.
Business coaching is a partnership between a client (coachee) and a coach. A coach provides the coachees with proven tools and skills to enable them to realise their goals and dreams. The coach provides a supportive, caring and challenging environment where the focus is totally on the coachee and what is best for him or her.
During the coaching journey we often uncover specific skills needs. At Nova Leadership Development we have the unique advantage of having our vast range of training materials. If required we will transition into a mentoring process through one-on-one facilitation of the appropriate modules of a training programme to enhance skills during the coaching journey.
Coaching and mentoring share many similarities so it makes sense to outline the commonalities in what coaches and mentors do:
-
Facilitate the exploration of needs, motivations, desires, skills and thought processes to assist the individual in making real, lasting change.
-
Use questioning techniques to facilitate the client's own thought processes in order to identify solutions and actions rather than taking a wholly directive approach
-
Support the client in setting appropriate goals and methods of assessing progress in relation to these goals
-
Observe, listen and ask questions to understand the client's situation
-
Creatively apply tools and techniques which may include one-on-one training, facilitating, counselling and networking.
-
Encourage a commitment to action and the development of lasting personal growth and change.
-
Maintain unconditional positive regard for the client, which means that the coach is at all times supportive and non-judgemental of the client, the client’s views, lifestyle and aspirations.
-
Ensure that clients develop personal competencies and do not develop unhealthy dependencies on the coaching or mentoring relationship.
-
Evaluate the outcomes of the process, using objective measures wherever possible to ensure the relationship is successful and the client is achieving their personal goals.
-
Encourage clients to continually improve competencies and to develop new developmental alliances where necessary to achieve their goals.
-
Work within their area of personal competence.
-
Possess qualifications and experience in the areas that skills-transfer coaching is offered.
-
Manage the relationship to ensure the client receives the appropriate level of service and that programmes are neither too short, nor too long.
